Whispered Promises

 Walking on Sunshine
Back to Full Blog

I love summer.

I love the whole thrill of opening the doors and windows.
I will be driving to the ocean and playing on the beach.
Invitations will be filled by family and friends to come and visit.

I am a summer baby; there is no two ways about it.
I live in God's country in Maryland.
A small home town setting that lets you to revert back to the 'good ole days' and yet a half an hour in either direction takes you to the beach and boardwalk or to the hip lifestyle of a busy city.
It is ideal and versatile enough to keep me happy in all genres.
I can’t help but celebrate in my way;
Thus the poem;
Enjoy.

*******

Heart of Sunshine

The bright sun greets me as I walk out the door
The rain falls in rhythm, dancing on the side walk
Letting winged creatures splash in delight
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Children whizzing by on their bikes and boards
Chasing down the ice cream truck
Their laughter flitting back to my heart
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Fireman fairs set up and filtering families and friends
Bingo numbers being called out
Mothers smiling the first time all day
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Wedding bells chiming out to all that love was found
Graves with bright bouquets
Earmarking the loved ones still missed
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Dogs prancing on leashes seeking attention from all
Town people filling picnic baskets
Beach towels wrapped around the waist
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Bedroom Windows open to welcome the night
Frogs calling out their greeting
While fire flies flicker and decorate the eve
What a day to wake to
What a great way to make it through
The summer day

Secret,
I am really, but I think as long it is summer I can make any area be like this!
Its the sun and the breeze and the 'barefootin' that makes it all good to me.
Don't you love it Secret?

Yes, it does sound like you should be singing this. How nice to read, especially today when it's rained here all day and is cold!! Yesterday was warm and beautiful so it's ok.

Oh but it is coming Bohemian!
The sun will come out tomorrow...*grins* Yes I am a bit musical of late.
Anyways, the point is that Summer is HERE!
The rain makes the green grow!

This is our "Victoria Day Long Weekend" here in Canada, the unofficial start to summer. Half the city hop into cars and head to the cottage. For Linda and I its our major weekend spent getting a handle on the garden (a hopeless task but we live in hope every year).

And Anexplorer may dig out his shorts and expose those white and pasty legs to Mother Nature.

by Anexplorer (PM , CC ) on Friday May 16, 2008 @ 6:14 PM

Oh Anexplorer,
You and Matthew both.
He won't wear shorts in public but in our private yard out back he will and the sun glare.... *nods*
I had large gardens, cottage ones, when I lived in the house in NY. The girls were little and I would garden when they went out to play.
Now I have a no yard in NY and I don't sit still long enough to properly care for one in Maryland.
I do enjoy a few of my neighbors' though.

I could love summer better in a different location or if I had better access to a different location!

It's true you know .... location, location, location makes all the difference!!!

I also enjoyed the story about Art down there too!

June!
That was delightful to have my very own 'June' summer signature in my comments!
It made me feel like we played together. What fun was that?
Thanks my dear friend

Bella girl,

I could suggest a wonderful place to move to, it starts with Mary and ends with land. I will show you all the highlights!

I am glad you loved my story of Art, he was a wonderful memory to share.

Ok, I'm officially JEALOUS!! You live half an hour from the beach??!!

Actually, I know how you feel....I love where I live [though I would be even MORE happy if I were close to the beach!]....I'm close to the "city" but still far enough away to hear the Whippoorwills at night in my back yard!

Bry!
I do!
I have the bay right in my backyard. Its a little crabbing town.
The people there have their own talk, I need to do a blog on it becuase it is very humorous. My husband grew up in the town so everyone knows everyone, but I have lived there quite a few years so I am regarded as a transplant now. Isn't that funny?
I love country summers too, thats how I grew up but I was an hour from any real social climate.

Heather,

It was fun wasn't it?
You sound like me, the winter pulls on me. New York's winters are far to long for my liking.

Oh Ron,
I wonder how long til it seeps out our way. We have had some break ins in town a few weeks back. Sad isn't it?

by Whispered Promise (PM , CC ) on Saturday May 17, 2008 @ 11:20 AM

I refuse to change or modernize the windows in my home because my casement windows are about as 'crime-proof' as you get - most of the break-ins here are in houses with the new windows

There is some solid proof in that. Burglers see new money going into protecting a house and will want to see 'why' more times than not.
Ron,
We had our whole street have cars broke into to find change and items to see for drugs. The reason he got caught was that the next to last house had a camper and he decided to rest before moving on and overslept and was caught.
Crack is making its way here, it is beyond me why anyone would decide to do it for the first time.
I have seen to geuinely respected citizens become useless to society because of it. Scary how fast it eats the inside out.

I love the idea of Summer and all the things you can experience during it that other seasons tend to forbid. I just wish the temperature didn't get into the 90's. That's too hot for me and then I just don't enjoy anything except air conditioning.

Ah, it's one of those days here in Iowa.
Bright and sunny, with all hope flourishing.
Don't you love it?

WP.

Heroin is back again - esp. in the rich suburbs. They are arresting High school kids regularly with heroin

Meth is the main drug of choice here - and it is very addicting and destructive

Thanks Whit,
I like the rhythm of written summer in this piece.
Its kind of like a simple lyric, no real substance except a piece of summer fun.

Sherry,
My hubby is the same way, He hates the heat.
I think mostly because he works in the meat room all day, every day, at the store. Ideal temps are 60s for him. Our house is fully conditioned and roughing the heat for him is standing at the grill in the eve. :)

I do Joe!
I am a nostalgic gal,
Summer holds hours and hours of memories for me and the most fun I have was just enjoying life. Summer brings that to full swing.

I didn't know you lived in that good a location. Nice. One stop shopping in a half hour for all your happiness needs. I love the summer. My girl friend says winter lasted ten months this year. It's about time the good old days got here. I'm ready. I'm spending Memorial Day week in the other Ocean City, Jersey's version.
