 Twice the Celebration

When the youngest girls were 7 and 9, they went to an Easter celebration for kids with my mom.

After a nice luncheon and an egg hunt, they handed the kids a dozen plastic eggs in an egg carton, one by one the kids were instructed to find a certain colored egg and open it. Each egg contained a piece of the Easter Story.
When the Ceebration was over and they returned home, the girls were so excited to show me each egg and what was represented by each item.
One egg contained a crouton that represented the last supper, as they continued with each item, a nail to represent the crucifiction and so one, they came to Ashli's last egg, she explained that this was a very special egg, and she opened it, it was empty.
Ashi then explained it was like the tomb! Jesus is not there, He is in heaven!
Well Kayleen started jumping up and down shouting, "I have two special eggs mommy!"
Ashli immediately grabbed my arm and said, "That's only because she ate her crouton!"

The girls are now 13 and 15, but they still recall that particular celebration and how simple it was to their little minds to have eggs that represented Christ's journey here on earth.

I have found a website that has the items needed if you ever want to share in this way.

I will be traveling Monday, back to Maryland, so I won't be back until early next week.

Have a wonderful and Happy Easter Everyone!

 Fed Ex Prison

Saturday my daughter's verizon phone quit charging.
I went to the verizon store and they gave me a number to call and said since the phone was under warranty, we should have a new phone sent to us by the next business day. TA- DA!

Yeah.

So bright an early I called the 866 number provided, talked to a delightful gentleman for a few minutes, who informed me that the phone would be delivered Tuesday between 8am to 4:30pm. An adult would need to be present to sign for the phone, which leaves only me, since my oldest is in college 45 minutes away and lives there during the week.

So Tuesday, I made sure I had all my work that needed to be handled outside the home set aside and sat in my 'in home' office, working and waiting. At 2thirty, I had to run to the school to get the girls which is 10 minutes away, they had strict instructions to come directly to the car so we had just a little less than a half hour to miss the package.

We arrived home with no Fed Ex slip hanging on the door and waited the evening out with no delivery.

After running the girls to school Wednesday, I called Verizon who informed me that the order had been placed and gave me Fed Ex's number.
I contacted Fed Ex, who called me back after noon, and stated the address provided was non-existant. I checked the address and it was correct, and confirmed that I do exist, I receive packages and mail here on a regular basis for the last 3 years.
They then explained the package would be delivered between 8am and 4:30pm, Thursday.

Well Thursday proved to be a repeat of the previous days and at 4pm I called tracking and this is the conversation that occurred, minus some reverifying of address and 3 extensions later.

Fed Ex: Hi, Jerry speaking, may I help you.

Me: Yes, I have been expecting a package since Monday between 8 am and 4 thirty pm and have not received it as of yet.

Fed Ex: Can I have your tracking number please.

Me: *sighs since I had typed it into the phone 3 times already* (insert 12 digit #)

Fed Ex: Yes, so how can I be of service?

Me: I have been trapped in my house since Monday waiting for a package to arrive and now am told my address doesn't exist and it does.

Fed Ex: Well our driver could not find it.

Me: The street I gave you is a small street, only 8 houses and one large building with 4 apartments, I am in Apartment 1, it is part of the address.

Fed Ex: The driver states he could not find your apartment.

Me: Really? *fighting aggitation* How odd since this is the only apartment building AND I hung a large note in red lettering on the door telling Fed Ex that I was expecting the package.

Fed Ex: Maybe the note blew off?

Me: It is on the inside of my storm door, taped to the glass, unless the whole door blew off, it is there.

Fed Ex: What color is the building Ma'am?

Me: *sighing* Tan - Look I have had to be prisoner in my house since Monday waiting for this thing.

Fed Ex: Why don't you leave a signed note saying to leave the package?

Me: I was told I had to have an adult to sign for it, I could have left a note all this time?

Fed Ex: *long pause* No, wait, an adult has to be there to sign for it. I will send the driver to the directions you just provided.

Me: *delighted for a moment* Wonderful! How soon should I expect him?

Fed Ex: Tomorrow between 8am and 4:30pm.

Me: Oh my word! I am being held prisoner by Fed Ex!

Fed Ex: *pauses* Is there anything else I can help you with Ma'am?

Me: Oh no Jerry, and hopefully it will be a lot longer before I ever need your services again.

Fed Ex: Have a nice day.

Me: *rolling eyes and hanging up*

The package arrived today at 12:30 pm, today, Friday.

* a weary cheer* Yes!

I was Country before Country was Cool

I've tried, but I can't escape it.
Some days I don't want to, other days I wonder how I survived.

I was raised a redneck, we didn’t know it was called that, but here it is plain and simple in the “You Might be a Redneck…” book. Thank God for Jeff Foxworthy, because of him everyone wants to have some red neck in them, but there are some of us that are more authentic than others.
I have changed quite a bit and though I sing proudly with my cousins the Karaoke version of ‘Redneck Woman’ at reunions, I never like my Christmas lights up too long and don’t do lawn ornaments.
But when I go home to small town Pennsylvania (where I was born and raised), it all comes back to me.
On one such trip I pulled in to find my dad had spray painted his old bowling ball with a shiny blue paint and set it on my mom's bird bath to pass it off as a gazing ball. He is right proud and says he saved himself 70 bucks doing that. I recognized the combination right away, especially since he made no grave effort to place the finger holes down!

Oddly this irritates my brother, who is Jeff Foxworthy's twin. He should talk, he did his whole van over so that every NASCAR fan knows he was an Earnhardt(#8) fan and now is every step behind Kevin Harvick. And besides shutting off the phone and locking his doors on race days, he and his wife attend two of the races each season and camp right in the back of their van.
My whole family, with the exception of my husband and I, hunt, belong to at least two bowling leagues and participate all summer in horse shoe leagues. The only events I did partake with is fishing, and the church softball league, I did enjoy that. I am not sure why I never got involved in the other, but as a kid I attended those events with a book to read.

Sometimes, when the stars line up just right, we get a chance to gather at the table and share stories I hadn’t heard yet. These are so fun. My girls have been raised quite urban so they are highly entertained when the stories come out.
Occassionally new stories come forth that even I hadnt heard, so I thought I would share a couple of my favorites.

One Christmas my brother's oldest son asked for and received a night vision video player for his tree stand to see what activity it picks up. Well the morning after his son had set it up my brother called me laughing. He said he got up every two hours that night, stripped to his drawers and ran in front of the camera. The next day when his son went to review it, he asked, "Did it catch any Bears?"

My two brothers and father decided to hunt a hill near my parent’s house. Snow had covered everything during the week and on top of that, a light sleet had begun.
My dad had read that the day was supposed to be wet and wore a yellow slicker and pant set where as my brothers had their carhart cloth gear on that was not designed for rain. They were walking along the ridge of a sloping hill and had to descend to the base to get to their vehicles and head home to get lunch and mostly to get warm. The walk would take a while and my father thought this would be an appropriate time to taunt the boys at how he was toasty warm and dry, where as my brothers were getting soaked and cold.
It was during this taunt that my dad lost his footing on this hill and began to slide down the embankment, the snow now slick from the new rain was perfect condition for my dad’s slicker to become a human sled. My dad fell to his back and slid down the hill at top rate speed while my brothers yelled from the top of their lungs things like, “Wow Dad, get the truck warmed up!” and “I wish I had thought of wearing my sled” and "since you will get there first go ahead and heat up the soup".
My dad’s journey, though quite a ways, did not injure anything but a bit of pride, brought the table to a roar of laughter as we envisioned dad making his quick escape.
When I asked what dad thought of the event, he grinned and said, "Not only was I dry but I didn't have to walk as far as they did."
That is why I love the attitude. Nothing is bad unless it's broke, and even then we may be able to make a gazing ball out of it.

I love this song!

 Are ya Callin Me Irish?

Ireland is inside of me.
It is a part of my heritage so deep that its music and dance moves me deep within my soul.

My girlfriend lived in England a short while with intent to travel. I told her of my Irish background and upon return I asked her of the countries she visited. I asked of Ireland, and her grin grew wide and she said, "Girlfriend, it was the weirdest thing, your daddy was everywhere we went and they have the same sense of humor as him as well!"

Its in my blood. Both sides of my family escaped Ireland during the great potato famine. They came by ship to Ellis Island and settled in the lands of this great Nation. My families still carry many of the Irish superstitions, and luck, though I have come to know the luck more as a great attitude.

I sometimes feel homesick for a land I have never lived or visited, as of yet.

May your glass be ever full
May the roof over your head be always strong,
And may you be in heaven Half an hour before the devil even knows you're dead.
